Prayer is simply talking with God. Many times we tend to over complicate prayer, but we should talk to God as we would with one of our closest friends sitting across the table from us. Prayer is talking with God about where we are in life, circumstances we are facing, and asking Him to help us or other people. We talk…He listens, He talks…we listen and the beautiful thing is…even a simple prayer works. Prayer has the power to change even the most difficult situation you are facing today.
“Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God.” Philippians 4:6 AMP
We worry and are anxious, when all we have to do is take our concerns to God in prayer. When we pray, be specific. Tell God exactly what you need in your own words. He doesn’t expect you to talk to Him in King James English. Prayer doesn’t have to be eloquent or long, neither do you have to kneel with folded hands. Posture doesn’t matter…you’re heart is what matters.
When my daughter was a baby, she awoke one morning with a high temperature. She was fretful, crying and wouldn’t eat. My husband was at work and in those days we didn’t have cell phones. I was very concerned for her and decided to pray. I held her in my arms and prayed a very simple, short prayer. I asked God to heal her body and told Him if He did, I would testify. It was one of the shortest prayers I’ve ever prayed. Immediately her fever left and she was well. I praised Him and thanked Him for answering my prayer. When my husband came home that afternoon, I told him what God had done. I’ve related this story of answered prayer many times since then. What was so amazing to me He answered my simple prayer and He did so immediately.
When we pray, we are partnering with God.
Prayer makes us partners with God. It’s asking Him to meet your need or someone else’s. It’s asking Him to take charge of a situation. It’s praising and thanking Him for who He is and what He has done. Prayer opens the door for God to come into our problems and work on them.
Some people don’t pray much because they don’t realize how powerful prayer actually is. It’s one of the greatest privileges we have as Christians. In James 5:16 the Bible says, “the earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayers of a righteous man makes tremendous power available (dynamic in its working).” Prayer is about the sincerity of heart and putting your whole heart into it in simple childlike faith.
When you’re facing difficulties, simply pray and pray simply.
Spend time in prayer talking to God. Talk to Him in simplicity and from your heart. Find out what He wants to do and then follow His leading. God is a good God! He loves you and wants what is best for you.
