Worry is a trap set by the Devil and an easy one for most of us to be caught in.

Worry is really faith in the Devil and his ability to harm us, whereas, faith is belief in God and His power to help and protect us.  The Bible also clearly teaches that Christians are not to worry.

In Philippians we are commanded,

Do not be anxious (do not worry) about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  Philippians 4:6 KJV

In this Scripture, we learn that we should bring all of our needs and concerns to God in prayer rather than worry about them.

Jesus encourages us to avoid worrying about our earthly needs, such as food or clothing.  He assures us that our loving, heavenly Father will take care of all our needs.  (Matthew 6:25-34).   Therefore, we have no need to worry about anything!  Besides, worry is totally useless.

Since worrying should never be a part of a Believer’s life, just how does one overcome the pitfall of worry and not get bogged down?

We are instructed in 1 Peter:

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.  1 Peter 5:7

God does not want us to carry around the weight of problems and burdens.  In this verse, God is telling us to give Him all of our worries and concerns.

Why does God want to take on our problems?

The Bible says it is because He cares for us.  God is concerned about everything, yes everything that happens to us or concerns us!  No worry is too big or too small for His attention.  He is interested in every detail of your life.  He even says the very hairs of your head are numbered.  That’s pretty detailed, I would say!

When we give God our problems, and yes we must give Him our problems, He promises to give us a peace that transcends all understanding.

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:7 KJV

Those who don’t know Jesus as their Savior, will have worry and anxiety as part of their life.  But to those who have given their lives to Him, Jesus made this promise.

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.  Matthew 11:28-30 KJV

Ask yourself:

  • Does God love me?
  • Does He care for me?
  • Has He ever failed me?

The next time you catch yourself in the Devil’s trap of worry, say out loud, “Stop!  I refuse to worry!  God’s got this situation under control, because I cast my cares and worries over onto Him right now!”

Put some praise and worship music on, but better yet you praise Him and thank Him that all your problems are taken care of in the name of Jesus.

When you are feeling down, refuse to worry.  Let it go, whatever “it” is.  Place it in God’s hands.  He will bear every burden for you.  Be free from worry today!
