What To Do When Life Doesn’t Turn Out As Expected

Do you feel stuck in a rut?  You thought by now you would have reached your goals, your dreams, your aspirations?  Now you are left wondering is life always going to be this way?  What do you do when life doesn’t turn out as you expected?  The one thing you must not do is give up!  But read on for important keys to help you stay the course.

These key points will help you know what to do when life doesn’t turn out as expected.

  • Purpose in your heart you will never give up your dream.
  • Stay true to your calling.
  • Continue to learn and to grow in wisdom and in knowledge.
  • Trust God that He who began a good work in you will complete it.
  • Believe that God is faithful no matter how your circumstances look.

We read that Daniel and his companions were carried captive to Babylon during the reign of  Jehoiakim, king of Judah (Daniel 1:2).  He and his three companions, because of their special qualifications, were selected to be trained for the king’s service.

Even though Daniel was in a foreign land and held captive, his circumstances did not change who he was.  What Daniel saw with his natural eyes did not change his spiritual understanding.  This was key to Daniel’s success.

“But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank:  therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.”  Daniel 1:8 KJV

“As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom:  and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.”  Daniel 1:17 KJV

God’s hand of blessing was upon Daniel and his companions (Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego), in spite of their captivity.  It was God who gave Daniel and his three Hebrew companions their skill, talent, abilities, knowledge, wisdom, hope and dreams and it is the same God who gives these same abilities to you.

If you read the book of Daniel you will read about him being thrown into the den of lions.  In spite of this fiery trial Daniel’s faith remained intact and just like Abraham, his faith never wavered.  He never doubted God’s ability to save him.   God shut the lion’s mouths and they did not harm him.  As a result, the king declared Daniel’s God to be the living God and he gave Him praise, honor and glory.

In the book of Daniel you will also read about the three Hebrew children being thrown into the furnace of fire.  They too, escaped unharmed because of Almighty God whom they served and like Daniel their faith never wavered either.

Daniel was preferred, promoted and prospered because he had an excellent spirit.

Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm. Daniel 6:3 KJV

What does the Bible mean by “an excellent spirit?”  It means to excel, go above and beyond the call of duty, to honor God with his whole being.  Daniel was a man of purpose, a man of prayer, a man of perception, and a man of power.   Daniel’s excellent spirit distinguished him among all the other young men.  He stood out as a shining example and because of this he was favored and chosen.

Dare to be a Daniel in today’s world.  Keep your integrity in spite of your circumstances.  Stay faithful to God and He will promote you.  When life doesn’t turn out the way you expected, just stand firm in faith and keep expecting!  God will not disappoint you!
